The Key Word Signs Language Program uses a structured approach to teach language and literacy skills, through instruction involving a combination of speech, signs, and graphic symbols used concurrently. It is a key word signing system that aims to provide a basic means of communication and encourage language development. 

Key Word Signs aids the child’s ability to communicate by supplementing spoken language via a visual means. This process allows the child to understand information and encourages the development of spoken language.

Key Word Signs is used daily in the classroom and playground by our students and is supported throughout Leda Primary School. An award is presented at assembly to recognise individual students across both schools who regularly use Key Word Signs. Classes supplement their assembly presentations with Key Word Signs and assemblies also enable the whole school to be taught new signs.
